We had a wonderful experience with Fusions. The food was great of course (quote from friend, "the best food I've ever had at a wedding"), and very unique. They did a great job balancing our varied tastes and backgrounds (there was Korean, Peruvian, Italian, & American food). Blaise was very helpful and organized throughout the whole process. Jim is a great chef who is great to chat with. Bernadette did a great job at the reception, and the service was fantastic! I got quite a few compliments on how great and friendly the servers were (loved being served by Jimmy!). Overall great experience with Fusions!

Fusions Cuisine did an amazing job at our cocktail hour and reception! The food was perfect. My husband and I come from different ethnic backgrounds, (Vietnamese and red meat eating midwesterners..... And I have a family of 'foodies') and we wanted a reception dinner that combined our cultures, and not a typically boring reception meal. Fusions knocked it out of the park! The food was delicious, the lemongrass steak was so tender it melted like butter in your mouth, and the miso glazed salmon was perfect. Blaise and James were a pleasure to work with and provided exactly what we were hoping for, the food was authentically amazing. We received many many compliments from our guests, not only about the food, but also the excellent service. The Fusions staff were all friendly,
positive and happy. I interacted with Jim the most , he was so kind and helpful.
We highly recommend Fusions Cuisine for their food AND the service.

Fusions Cuisine was fabulous. We had a personalized menu for our wedding day, and we couldn't ask for better service. The on-site tasting with had with them months before our wedding was so good, and they were very happy to accommodate us and our parents. The food during cocktail hour and reception were amazing, and we received so many compliments about how wonderful everything tasted. During the wedding, they were so efficient, and we kept to our schedule very well, which was very important to me. By far, the food was one of my most favorite parts of the wedding.

My husband and I had our wedding reception at the Torpedo Factory Art Center - which is an amazing venue for an event and also challenging for a caterer. It does not have any kind of a kitchen and it doesn't have a large prep area for them to work. Our reception in my eyes was perfect. I knew of literally not one problem. The food tasted great, the aesthetics and display looked amazing, Blaise & Jim's professionalism was seen and felt, and honestly it was perfect to me (other than the fact that it felt like it FLEW by!) Blaise was really easy to work with even though I'm sure I was somewhat of a thorn in her side at times with my million questions - she was very patient and thorough, which I appreciated immensely. The caterer is a HUGE component in an event, and I highly recommend Fusions!

Blaise and Jim were such a pleasure to work with during my wedding. They strive to produce great food and it definitely shows. Fusions Cuisine was able to create that home-cooked style I was looking for when I was searching for my caterer. Their food doesn't taste mass-produced and everything was done in the utmost professional fashion. Blaise was also instrumental in helping me work with a more challenging venue. We chose to have a 2 floor reception which would have made most caterers grumpy, but Blaise helped the wedding move wonderfully. Blaise was also concerned about my unusually long reception: 8 hours, but she ran with it and made the entire thing work with our budget. The waitstaff was also the best I have ever seen at a wedding. They made sure the entire venue was spotless the whole night and that the guests were comfortable. The proof is in the pudding though: my wedding guests are still raving about the food even weeks after our wedding. Thank you so much, Fusions!

Blaise & Jim were wonderful to work with! Blaise was amazingly helpful in planning and organizing our wedding day. She had lots of ideas that helped make our day a success. Jim is an outstanding chef and everyone raved about their dinner. He is very creative and the cuisine was outstanding. The staff was friendly, helpful and a delight to have with us for the day. You will not find a better caterer!

Fusions Cuisine provided the catering for my daughter's wedding. The bride and groom live in Australia so as MOB, I ended up with most of the wedding planning. We did not use a wedding planner as I was comfortable with the vendors being able to provide what they promised--and they did! Fusions was selected as a recommendation through the venue's website. Once I looked at their beautiful selection of foods, it was love at first sight. We met with Jim and Blaise for a tasting and we didn't want to leave--the food was wonderful and they are a delightful energetic couple. We explained our problems--no nuts or soy products--and they came up with a menu eliminating these items. The preliminary meetings were easy and Blaise was very helpful in helping my daughter select table coverings, etc. Blaise was always responsive to my emails and questions and I had no problems. The day of the "outside" wedding, it of course rained. Balise and Jim were not at the wedding but the very competent Richard took over. He was fabulous and many people commented on what a great job he and the staff did especially with the adverse weather conditions. They made it so easy, we didn't even notice the rain. Many people commented on the wonderful food--quite unusual for most weddings where the food tends to be institutional. Not the case with Jim's food! Everything was presented beautifully and efficiently. I would hire Fusions Cuisine again and definitely would recommend them to anyone planning an event where a caterer is needed!!! Thank you to Jim, Blaise and Richard for an outstanding event.

-Small business and you get that feel of being their only focus, you aren't lost in a sea of brides, of course I got married in the fall, less busy
-Jim the chef is truly a visionary and made me feel like I was spending more money than I was.
-Blaise, his wife and co-owner is very attentive, very down to earth, never felt like I was being taken advantage of
-Be very, very cognisant of what it is you want, how much of it that you want and watch your budget
I would recommend them to anyone, I would chose them again. The only reason I didn't give them a five is because I only worked with them, there was nothing to compare them to.

Fusions Cuisine as noted in other reviews can be considered a great value. Their cost in comparison to the quality of food was the selling point for us. As a point of reference, we approached the planning of our wedding by focusing on the venue, photography and catering in that order. Our menu was planned as an important part of our day and a reflection of our interests. You can expect Jim to be thoughtful and willing to work with you on creating a menu tailored to you.
We believe Fusions delivered to the best of their abilities. However, couples considering Fusions may also want to consider working with a wedding planner/coordinator. Fusions missed more than a few important details discussed at three different planning meetings - the tasting, contract and final walk-through. The primary drawback in working with Fusions is that they lack a dedicated, qualified event or project manager. Blaise attempts to manage both the business aspect (client communication, billing, contracts, etc) and on-site management. While incorrect invoices & payment balances are easy to correct missed menu items, misplaced serving tables and ugly buffet stations (paid for tiered display and received a flat table) cannot be corrected the day of your wedding.
Another major disappointment in our experience came on our wedding day when we discovered Jim was not on-site, despite a verbal agreement of ‘first come, first served’ from Jim & Blaise at our tasting and contract signing. Ultimately, our food was fine but we would have appreciated honest communication from Fusion. Post-wedding Blaise suggested that Jim was not guaranteed in our contract and that she had ‘told him to stop saying that’ in reference to our reminder of the first come, first serve agreement.
Again, a good value from a small business owner/chef willing to cater a unique menu but be willing to stay on top of things for yourself or prepared to hire a coordinator.
**This section has been updated after Fusions posted a response to our initial review**
You will not see many reviews for Fusions on WeddingWire but note the only areas where Fusions consistently seems to lose points are for - professionalism & responsiveness. We are not the first to make this observation and likely not the last if the company is not able to recognize customer complaints as an opportunity for improvement. If you are a bride planning your wedding notice the number of 5-star reviews on WeddingWire and then consider how many of those brides may have planned a large event prior to their wedding? In this situation, the bride & groom are both experienced project managers. We compared our contract & verbal agreements to what was received. A 3.8 out of 5.0 stars and a recommendation to hire the vendor does not seem unfair.
BRIDES & GROOMS - we would be happy to answer specific questions about our experience with this vendor or others we used. We found many good people in the area. See our other reviews.

Fusions Cuisine was above and beyond what we could ever hope for in a catering company. The food was absolutely phenomenal...we are still getting rave reviews and compliments for having the best wedding food anyone had ever eaten. We had specific foods we were looking for to have at our reception and Jim was able to put together an amazing menu for us that had everything we wanted and more. Jim and Blaise were so easy to work with and were so helpful. The staff that accompanied Fusions at our reception were amazing. Everyone was so professional, polite, friendly, patient, helpful. Every single member of the waitstaff and the bartenders were absolutely fantastic.
I would recommend Fusions to anyone. The value, the service, the food...it is all amazing. I cannot say enough good things about Fusions Cuisine. They definitely made our wedding perfect and there was not one hungry guest after our wedding!

Fusions made our wedding dreams come true. Not only are our guests STILL raving about how incredible the food at our wedding was, but I was blown away that they came in under our [low] budget while still providing top quality, unique, and delicious food. My husband and I have distinguished taste pallets, and Jim was so creative in the menu offerings, careful to make every dish special and memorable- exactly what we wanted. As the bride, I was completely confident and at ease that if anything went wrong on the day-of, Blaise would handle it with elegance and professionalism so that nobody would even notice. The service we received from the catering staff was absolutely perfect. Fusions made the difference between a good wedding and a perfect wedding. We will never consider any other caterer for a special event.

My husband and I had a backyard wedding brunch for 70 and Fusions Cuisine made our event the success that it was. The food was INCREDIBLE--and they were really flexible in designing a menu that gave us exactly what we were looking for. We wanted elegant, local, healthy food and didn't want to blow our entire budget on food--we were able to accomplish all of this. I think best of all, the day of the wedding, the on-site staff were amazing--I didn't have to worry about a thing (which is major if you're getting married somewhere that doesn't have on-site event staff). If you're getting married anywhere in the DC area, I strongly recommend looking at Fusions for your catering.

During our first meeting with Fusions Cuisine, Blaise handled the business side and Jim was the chef providing us with delicious dips, a sample of appetizers (the seared scallops on a watermelon and in some cilantro sauce were delicious), and a sample of the main course. The dishes were full of flavor, unlike other big name caterers in the area and showed Jim's excitement and passion for his craft. Blaise and Jim were both helpful in consulting with us to create a customized menu that would work best for us as well as our family and friends. Also, since we had a set budget, they were really flexible and came up with creative ways to help us stay within our budget. During the caterer walkthrough, Blaise made the experience an easy one by helping us select our table linens, napkins, and silverware that fit with the style and color of the ball room. She was easy to work with and extremely accomodating and professional throughout the whole process. During the wedding, the staff provided were professional and efficient. In addition to the two bars and bartenders, they had waiters walk around with trays full of wine and beer to serve to our guests. We thought this was a nice classy touch and had our guest feeling special. Overall, Fusions Cuisine was a joy to work with and provided a professional service that is accomodating to their customers, while also serving delicious food that made the wedding feel special. We would highly recommend you to use them!

I would recommend Fusions Cuisine to all of my friends (and hope that I'm invited to the wedding)!
I checked out a number of catering companies including the more well-known ones in the area. When I first met Blaise and Jim, I knew immediately that I had found my caterer. They are extremely personable and have a vast amount of experience which was comforting to me. And best of all, Jim's dishes are unique (not your typical boring pasta dishes) and amazingly delectable! When comparing cost per head, Fusions Cuisine came in on par or slightly less than the others.
Having memorable food was my husband's only "ask" so I was so excited for him to meet Blaise and Jim. My husband brewed all of the beer for the wedding and brought some along to the tasting. During cocktail hour, we had a number of appetizers perfect for the summer weather (soba noodles, scallop watermelon ceviche, etc.). For dinner, we started with roasted duck and shrimp summer rolls followed by one of the following: Hoisin Glazed Angus Beef Tenderloin, Miso Glazed Atlantic Salmon, or Five Spice Infused Root Vegetable Gratin (all of it was so amazing that we had to have one of each at the sweetheart table!). The Vegetable Gratin was the most memorable in my opinion (and I usually shy away from the veggie dishes). Everything went so smoothly the day of the wedding and I couldn't have been happier. Thanks again Blaise and Jim!

Blaise and Jim are simply the best! Not only was the food incredible -- by far the best value for the money in D.C. -- but everything else that Fusions Cuisine provided for us was as well. From designing the menu to helping us create a beautiful space out of a warehouse to serving our guests throughout the night, Blaise and Jim made our wedding exactly what we had hoped it would be. On top of it all, they were fun and easy to work with. We would hire them again in a heart beat if we could do it all over again -- and would highly recommend them to anyone getting married in the D.C. area!

Blaise and Jim of Fusions Cuisine are wonderful at what they do. Blaise is warm and caring and on point with business side of catering. She is timely and professional with quotes and pricing and will work with you to help you get what you want and within budget. Jim is creative with his food and not only does it look good is also tasty. They are flexible and kind and I would recommend them to anyone.

Fusions is the best "bang for your buck" here in the DC area. When we first met with them for our tasting, we fell in love not only with their unique food and amazing tastes, but also with the owners of the company, Jim and Blaise. They are so relaxed and easy to work with, and present such an amazing product at the end of the day. You end up wanting to just hang out with them! Our guests were absolutely floored with the food, particularly the passed appetizers during cocktail hour. The unique presentations and combinations of flavors blew everyone away, and gave that high class taste that we were looking for at an incredibly reasonable budget. I can't imagine that any other caterer in the DC area can offer the assortment of unique tastes combined with the incredible people.

The very best compliment I can give Fusions Cuisine (and I can give a lot), is that 6 months after our wedding, people are STILL saying: "The food at your wedding was the BEST food." and then they always say "It was NOT 'wedding food'!" Anyone who has ever been to several weddings and always had the same "chicken with weird white sauce" will appreciate that Fusions Cuisine provides hands down the most creative, delicious, and above all UNIQUE event food you'll ever encounter.
*Our wedding:*
We had a casual but festive event with 100 guests at the Torpedo Factory Art Center Old Town Alexandria, VA (www.torpedofactory.org). We didn't want any partially hydrogenated/high-fructose corn syrup, etc., and it was important that our food was fresh and unique. We wanted something different and not boring. Fusions absolutely transformed our venue into a cool, beautiful place. We wanted pre-ceremony appetizers, buffet with mediterranean-style food, a relaxed atmosphere, a full-service bar, and a scotch tasting bar. The service was so so great and the food was amazing! This is honestly a fantastic choice for a caterer.
*Food:*
Jim is a wonderful chef and just a great guy. For our first meeting, they invited us to their home and we sampled several dishes, including risotto with white truffle oil. The fizzy non-alcoholic ginger drink they make is awesome and was a perfect choice to go with our pre-ceremony appetizers.
As I said before, people are STILL complimenting us on the food! hah it will come out of nowhere. People we haven't seen since the wedding will bring it up!
Seriously it was like having a chef from a really nice restaurant come to your party and make you amazing food. Blaise made sure that the leftovers were packed up for us nicely so we got to nosh the next day.
*Service:*
Blaise and Jim are very nice and accommodating, but what sets Fusions apart is that EVERYONE we met -- including the servers at our wedding -- were so nice! Just so pleasant and an absolute pleasure to work with. People at the wedding made comments about how great the service was.
We had a very tight timeline because of our venue, and the entire staff made an amazing transformation in a short amount of time.
*Style:*
Blaise helped us pick out table cloths, dinner ware, etc., and she has excellent taste. For NOT a lot of money, we were able to have a very stylish, artsy, posh wedding. She totally got that we didn't want "matchy-matchy" and helped us pull off a wonderful mix of colors and textures.
*Extras:*
One of the best parts about working with Fusions was that we actually learned a lot about the food they were making. Because we were interested, Jim explained not only what might go into, say, the ratatouille, but where he gets his vegetables, how he choses them, where the spices originate from, etc. etc. -- it was fascinating. (By the way, they also do cooking classes for small groups and I can see why they are so popular!)
Another thing I wanted to mention is that we also had several of our friends helping with the wedding (e.g., my sister made signs for the scotch tasting bar, my aunt made the wedding cake), and Blaise et al. were VERY accommodating. My friend who made the centerpieces kind of commandeered one of their tables for about an hour or so before the wedding -- Blaise and the crew didn't complain and were extremely helpful. This is part of why our wedding was so successful, because it all had a wonderful happy feel and just ran so smoothly.
*Price:*
Fusions Cuisine is reasonably priced considering the high quality that you get. Other caterers that we met with simply brushed us off with a brochure when they discovered our price range OR came close but couldn't offer the little extras we wanted (and gave us a non-personalized, hard-to-pronounce menu).
*Tips for working with them:*
Blaise is who organizes the event and handles the payments, etc. Make sure that you tell them exactly what you want and a pretty solid timetable. It will make the process go much more smoothly for everyone. For example, we described what we wanted at our first meeting, and they quoted us a price, but it wasn't until later in the process that we realized we hadn't included an important part of our event (the scotch bar). So we had to go back and rework the price. Blaise was very accommodating throughout, however, and worked with us patiently the whole way.
Also for the menu, don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. Jim welcomes a challenge and can alter the food any way you wish after the final tasting. For example, we requested Moroccan lamb, which he said he had never tried before. When we tasted it we said we'd like the spiciness bumped up, and at the wedding it was perfect.
This is a long review, but that's what happens when you are a very happy customer -- you can't help but share!!

Wedding: 5/9/09
Fusions Cuisine was a wonderful part of my wedding planning process and wedding day events. My husband and I were impressed by the quality of the food and the care that went into each dish. Fusion Cuisine's food far surpassed the competition's food. Without a doubt, I can say that Jim's food is the best value for the cost and it was a treat to eat the delicious food that he prepared. During the planning process he was comfortable recommending flavors and menu items, but also respectful when my husband or I didn't like something.
Jim and Blaise were both very professional and very kind. They suggested many great options but kept true to our tastes. They were also responsive to questions and went so far as to recommend a baker for our wedding cake. We could not have been happier with their recommendation!
There was one odd setup issue on the afternoon of the wedding, but whatever the mistake was, the issue was resolved and the afternoon/evening went forward as planned. While I wish that Blaise had been there on site that afternoon to remedy the situation, it was resolved and the outcome was lovely. My husband and I were lucky to have found Fuisions Cuisine.

The food Fusions provided for our April 2009 wedding was fantastic! We received so many compliments!
Blaise and Jim did a great job with everything. They were incredibly responsive, and worked with us to create an ecletic international menu that was truly representative of who we are. Jim (the chef) was more than game to try new recipes and cuisines (mini Chicago deep dish pizzas, Ethiopian lentils).
Blaise was incredibly patient with all of our questions and requests, and was a calm presence throughout the wedding day. She was incredibly respectful of our homemade touches (diy cake stands, brownies instead of wedding cake, very informal service), which was refreshing! I felt like a lot of the caterers we talked to expected all weddings to be formal affairs with a white fondant cake, and they would look down their noses at us when we said we wanted something different. But not Blaise!
As a bonus, Fusions (and our venue) allowed us to bring our own alcohol, which saved us a ton of money. They also let us bring our own dessert (a friend baked us a spread of brownies).
I highly, highly recommend Fusions, and would hire them again in a heartbeat.
